A Christmas present - or maybe not?

Christmas is always a stressful time for me. I want to celebrate it with a little bit of luxury and a yummy meal. Not surprisingly, I was a little tired the next morning.. After I hung my blanket out to dry, I thought it would be fun to have breakfast outside with Amaya for company.
But it wasn't a good idea at all. My next neighbour Dan, who lives 1.5 km away, decided to say hello, his wife Karen close at his heels. He had never done this before. At least I could not remember.
I was surprised at how politely they tried to ignore Amaya, and we chatted for a long time, I even managed to ordered some more firewood.

I'm sure the news of Amaya's presence will spread like wildfire through the valley. Looking back, though, I'm glad it did, because they would have found out eventually anyway.

The result was a polite silence. As we all know, silence can be more deadly than a loud quarrel. Nevertheless, I am still welcome to order more firewood — in other words, the world keeps on turning. :D
