Help with posts

I have an idea about helping with grammar and spelling in posts, for those that want to use it.

Simply write your post, then click a button to have Ai either just fix the spelling, or completely rewrite post in a different style.

Of course this is entirely up to you — you have to press a button for the AI (Claude) to look at your post, so it will never do anything automatically. It will show you the result before replacing your original, so you can accept or ignore it.

This will be available when writing new posts, replying to posts, and in the edit screen.

If 3 or more of you would like this feature, I will look at adding it to the forum. My AI says it shouldn't be hard to add!

The comment box already has pretty decent spell check. A much bigger problem is inserting pictures in between text sentences and paragraphs.

If I want to insert a picture in between paragraphs or sentences, I put the cursor in between text where I want it, click on the picture to insert. It always puts the picture at the very top of the post. I then have to go into BB code and cut and paste the picture URL where it is supposed to go. Easy to do but an annoyance nevertheless.

That said comment on the poll:
The new site is probably much better than the old site for the casual user. For storytelling, where formatting is everything. the new format is often very frustrating. Make a change in one place and it screws up something unrelated somewhere else in the post. In other words every time you edit - tweak - save. Something always changes on its own - a font color, text size, spacing somewhere else in the post.

I have figured out the workaround for most. So, it is not that big of a deal for me anymore. But is anyone else reading this experiencing similar problems?

I know the forum could do with some tidying up, and I try to improve it whenever I can. I was waiting for the next version of Claude before tackling it again, mainly because the topic page is very finicky. Changing something small can easily break something else, and suddenly it turns into a full day of fixing issues. For example, I might change one thing and then the likes stop working, videos won’t display, or something else breaks.

Lady J has mentioned having trouble with arranging images and videos on the page also.

To help with this, I’ve been restructuring how the pages work by separating different features. For instance, the video handling is now in its own set of scripts, so changes there shouldn’t affect images as easily. Smilies are now separate as well, and images are as isolated as I can reasonably make them.

The video system still isn’t where I’d like it to be—I know that—but at least it mostly works now, and it should continue improving over time.

Please keep reminding me about these kinds of jobs. Working on the topic page is already on my list; I’m just waiting until I have enough time to dive back into it. I actually just finished a project for my main job, so I’ve got about a week before the next one starts. That should give me plenty of time to risk breaking the topic page again! It’s quite a complex part of the forum, with around a dozen scripts all working together to make everything function.

I'll have another look at it tomorrow, so there maybe some discruption. Worth it if I get working better :)

I just thought of a way, making cards for the text and images , so you can drag them around to arrange where paragraphs, videos and images are placed. I'll try it tomorrow!

Claude says it all possible. So you can build posts using modules instead of just BBCode. Should be a lot more stable?

I'll back the site up in the morning incase it all goes paired shaped. Then I'll spend the day on it. Expect major disruption. I'll have a warning up at the top of the site when working on it. When i am working on it don't make any new posts, just incase you loose them.

My browser already flags misspellings, most do, so that's a feature I've no need of.

Not a problem, but underlining spelling is a simple thing, redoing grammer etc is a bit more indepth.
Anyway, not one person say they want it yet, so it may never happen. Its a lot of work if noone is going to use it.

I think what causes most spelling mistakes and bad grammar is the auto correct that most devices and browsers have. If you misspell a word, it most often changes it to a completely different word. Sometimes ours will change the spelling on a word and I look it up to find out that the spell check changed it to the wrong spelling.

I turned off auto-correct for that very reason. Mine is set to just underline misspells. Of course spelling varies a bit US to UK, so it doesn't always get it right. 🙃
