I was a big F1 fan, starting from roughly 1989 when James Hunt was commentating with Murray Walker. Went to the British Grand Prix a couple of times. Over the years I have lost interest, just follow the results these days.

When I was young, I really wanted to be an Aeronautical Engineer (Aerodynamicist) in a Formula 1 team. But I kept dropping out of University (I've dropped out of 3 universities in my time - starting with Cambrige - but did get a Maths 2:1 BSc at a fourth university, not that it did me any good.)

James Hunt died in 1993 at the age of 45. Yes, he definitely lived his life in the fast lane.

Also, I love the ladies, but I'm probably a bit apergers (I hate labels, but a lot of people who say they've got aspergers are a damn sight more sociable than me). I don't connect with humans. I don't even desire human company. I don't feel lonely when I'm alone. When I'm with humans in a social context, it drains my energy and I'm constantly looking for an exit (I'm much better than I used to be.)

So for me to be a ladies man was never going to be on the cards. But I've had a good life, all the same. And yes, if I could be one person in history, I'd chose James Hunt, even knowing I'd be dead at the age of 45. It would be impossible to be James Hunt in this day and age.

Also, James Hunt won his one Formula 1 World Championship in 1976, the year I was born.
