Hi all, I'm new to dolls, looking to get my first used one soon, very excited... I'm wondering if there are any other shibari lovers on here, especially those practicing suspension? I'm very keen on tying up my future girl, learning the ropes so to speak 😉
If anyone has any advice, especially on how not to damage the doll (I know they're quite weighty), or just any insight or pictures of their rope work with their dolls I would love to see and hear about it!

Hi and welcome to the forum Noxnoctis. When you say suspension i take it you mean have her suspended in the air with ropes?

Ive seen it done with a Valentina Girl , its called the Hi fly suspension system they are plushie type girls, but never a TPE lady as some are quite heavy.

But good luck with your quest😊

Welcome to the forum, Assuming you’re talking about a TPE or silicone girl, as you probably already know they mark and stain easily so care would be needed to avoid damage from ropes. If suspending the entire dolls weight on ropes it’s probably a good idea to keep the time to a minimum so as to reduce the chances of permanent deformation or damage. As Bobby says if you have a plushie you can probably leave her dangling around for ages without too much trouble.
Like most of us if you decide you really like dolls you will probably end up with more than one so you could have a plushie for the rope stuff and TPE / silicone for alternative entertainment purposes!
If you like the idea of a plushie Jed currently has a couple of great ones for sale 😀

Thanks very much! I'm very attached to the idea of TPE/silicone, seems like I will just have to be very careful and take good care of her... I've heard warnings about the weight but we'll see how I handle it when I finally get my hands on my first, and hopefully, many more will come to join me after that!

Yes, a TPE/silicone girl in the air, I'm thinking I may tie her to some form of support before suspension to better handle the weight and prevent damage. Surely I won't be the first to do this, but nonetheless, I'm happy to experiment and share pictures of my future findings!

Well it will be a first on here. Ive never seen it done. But i imagine you would need a very light TPE doll.

Im not an expert on TPE or Silicone, but i know some of them are heavy.

I haven't tried it, but I think a single suspension point (i.e. the first) could split the skin due to the narrowness of the rope, so you will need to spread the load. I think this combined with an initial lifting on the neck bolt, then adding in your shibari suspension and posing the doll before removing the neck support and attaching the head might work. As doll joints are usually stressed in compression and this would stress joints in expansion you are entering unknown territory. I have seen photos of a suspended doll (she was posed to look like she was climbing a mountain, the mountain wasn't really there), but there were a lot of supports that were photo shopped out of the final image.

Silicone might be a better choice as it’s probably more resistant to dents and deformation (from the ropes) but it’s less stretchy than TPE so if it does deform it doesn’t seem to recover quite as comprehensively.
I assume specialist rope is available for this? Don’t even think of using standard industrial or marine type rope as it’s highly abrasive and often has dye which will cause damage to a doll.
It’s VERY easy to underestimate just how awkward it can be to move a heavy doll without damaging her or yourself. Maybe it’s worth considering getting a used / cheap doll just to experiment with the rope stuff before committing to an expensive purchase.
Very cheap or even free dolls are often available on the forums if you’re not too fussy for a specific model.

Welcome
here Noxnotics, can't wait to hear from your (hopefully successful) progress.
I just heard about these so-called BDSM crossbars. Make sure the girl is lying on top of the wood, and it’s best to check the ceiling before you install it.
I wish you the best of luck and hope you don’t run into any problems with your neighbors.

Hmm this is a good idea, for taking nice pictures not too difficult to shop things out. Really nice reference image to have, thanks! I presume if the weight is distributed strategically it won't be to stressful on the joints, so it's good to see how much weight distribution is feasibly safe. I'm certainly down for the challenge

Yes, I have a collection of jute, as well as other things. The staining issue is a very good one to keep in mind... Very much why I'm looking at the used market, to experiment before committing to a more expensive girl. Silicone is my first pick! I hear it's nicer to the touch as well, and more realistic looking

Yes I was considering one of those, good fun they are, maybe your girls can be convinced ;) And my neighbors are fine, my landlord is the real one to look out for 😆

Not neccesarily, TPE is generally nicer to the touch.

If you are really going to lift the full weight of an average- say 25-35KG doll and suspend her by rope I don’t think any silicone or TPE doll will survive without some marks or dents, ,,,,,,

Good to know, this has me considering other options, perhaps something like an illusion of suspension for nice pictures (with a little bit of editing)
