My first Smart Doll (maybe an impulse purchase)

So, maybe not the most rational decision, but I have finally took the plunge and purchased a pre-owned Smart Doll from eBay. She is due to arrive next week so more photos are to follow 😃

1/3 scale dolls are fun. I have 3 from a different maker.

It will certainly be interesting to see why they are so popular.

Also, looking at the Smart Doll website, many of the clothes you can buy are super cute (although proportionally expensive).

How come they’re so expensive?

I think it is due to brand image but, more importantly, also because all the items are hand made.

They are great fun and they don't give you a bad back.
The genuine Smart dolls are expensive, but they are well made, they are tested so they don't stain the Smart doll and they fit well.
You can pick up bits and pieces of clothing cheaply from Ebay and other sales platforms, it is hit and miss to whether they fit well or not.
I regard Seth to be very knowledgeable on all things Smart doll on this site, I am sure he will know a lot more about Smart dolls clothes than me.

I've been wanting one of those for awhile now, but too many other thinks higher on my priority list.

To be honest I was concerned given the price as to whether a pre-loved Smart Doll would be genuine but apparently Smart Dolls cannot be faked but fake websites can be set up claiming to sell them at a cheap price. There are only three official web sites that are licensed to sell Smart Dolls.

I am surprised as to what can be picked up on eBay regarding accessories and spares, etc. Smart Doll also provide sewing patterns for clothes so those that have the skills can make their own. Which is nice.

I wouldn't be too concerned about buying a pre-loved Smart Doll from Ebay, I know a lot of people who have bought pre-loved Smart Dolls from Ebay, it's often more a case of who is quick enough to buy them first.
I do occasionally keep a few little secrets .😊
These are my three Smart dolls, they were all pre-loved from Ebay, I bought them from various sellers during the early part of last year.

Belated congratulations. I think you made a perfectly rational decision. I can't wait to see who arrives. I have bought Smarties from ebay and you do have to be quick sometimes, but there are bargins to be found.

Wig care I have a Tangle Teaser Compact for brushing. They can be found on Amazon.

Another thing to be aware of is staining from clothes and wigs with dark lining. I've had no problem with official Smart Doll clothes and wigs. I've had a milk toned smartie wear the official black T shirt for months with no problems. The clothes they sell are expensive but the quality of them imo makes them worth it. It's the aftermarket stuff to be aware of when it comes to staining. I test anything dark by putting a spare hand in contact with it for a few days.

I have a few Smarties here and they awesome. If you need any advice on anything to do with them just hit me up and I will try to help out.

Evening Seth. Thank you for the info. I will have a look at the Tangle Teaser Compact. I have a Tangle Teaser for my full size doll wigs but the Smart Doll wigs look so tiny that they will be dwarfed by it.

I’ve bought some pre-owned hands for her from eBay. They are the V sign variety so she can either express peace/victory gestures or swear at me (most likely) lol.

Normal tangle teaser will be ok. I have both and the only difference is the size. Most of my Smarties have the long, straight wigs. The wavy ones I find much harder to style and they sometimes look a bit messy.

So, the big day is here. She was delivered yesterday.

Sadly I am working nights until Wednesday so I will be unable to do a proper unboxing until then.

I will have to get her out of her confinement though as I can hear lots of rustling and swearing from inside the box. Poor little thing does not like being shut in 🥺
