I’m feeling a little sick right now.
I was setting up for a new Christmas photo shoot with Lily and Melanie. It was suppose to be Melanie ‘peeking’ in a package for her, and Lily standing to the side ‘chastising’ her for doing so. A cute photo set ending up with Lily ‘peeking’ too. It didn’t happen.
Both Lily and Melanie were made back in the lat 90’s. I forget who came first, but Lilly was made right about the same time Melanie was made 97 or 98 if I’m right. Anyway, I know they are getting fragile, and have been taking great care with them They were both on ‘photo stands’, which are woof and pipe stands made by Incrediwagon that make hiding the stands easier in photos.
While setting them up, I got them positioned, then had to go do some things for the wife. She’s been in a wheel chair for many years now so dong things is hard for her. In the kitchen helping to make dinner, I heard a crash in the living room. Going in, I immediately saw Melanie had fallen over. At first glance, I thought Lily was still upright. Only her upper body was. Her lower body, lower torso, hips and legs were by Melanie’s feet. I stared at what happened. Lily had fallen in half, her lower half hit Melanie and knocked her over.
I got Melanie clear of the coffee table she’d hit on the way down. Yes, she was damaged, long rips to show her foam core. I was more than stunned. I had repaired Lily’s back not that long ago! Inspecting where Lily had broken apart, I noted the lower hardware I’d put in was still there, The upper bolt in her back that I thought was fine I found the head and a coupe threads lying in her lower body. It had broken at some time and the old silicone just ripped free.
MY first thought was to calm down and convince myself I could fix this. I’ve fixed worse. I got them back up into their bunks, got the remains of my silicone repair kit out and started with Melanie first. I closed her up and stapled the rips then looked at Lily. The bolt, which was small, Only about 3MM in diameter had broken off inside the upper joint. I don’t have an easyout that small to get it out. It’s below the hole the bolt is in, so coaxing it out with a small chisel or screwdriver won’t work. While I was trying to figure out HOW to fix that, I had to run down and help the wife more.
Coming back upstairs I checked on Melanie, who should be repaired. I found her skin had split on both sides of the staples I put in to hold her together. I also noted a long underarm split on her that wasn’t there before. She was too degraded, A simple light tug pulled off more skin when it shouldn‘t have.
Like I said before, I was feeling a little sick to my stomach. I have no way to put Lily back together and Melanie is too fragile to repair.
I guess I’ve found out the life expectancy of older Realdolls. It’s about 25 years, even if you take care with them and treat them gently. That upsets me. Not only for Lily and Melanie, but also Tabitha was made in 2000, so you can compute how old she is. Melanie was my first Realdoll. Yes, she is very special to me. Lily is special due to the good friend I had who passed away.
I’m scared for Tabitha. By what I found inspecting Melanie, Tabitha isn’t going to have but a few more years left. Finding Melanie is irreparable was a solid slam right to my heart. I’ve had her for a long time. If I loose Tabitha too, I do believe I might to something very regrettable. Right now, I’m not going to go buy a bottle of Singe malt scotch for Christmas, I might just sit down and drink the whole thing.
I know it’s fun playing with dolls, showing them off, taking pictures of them, but having these girls for so long, I really have become attached to them. Yes, they are not real people, but making personalities for them, used them as muse to write stories and just them being here every day, makes them part of the family.
What am I going to do with Melanie and Lily? Right now, I have no friggin clue. I talked to one of my friends, a guy that goes by Davecat, he’s another doll lover. I know he had to replace his doll Sidore a few years back. He did something like Azreal did here recently, and advised me to do the same thing. Take the ‘spirit’ out of Melanie and put it in a new doll that looks like her. Then I can remove the ‘carcass’ and still have my Melanie.
That won’t work for a couple reasons. One is there is no doll made today that even partially resembles Melanie. No one, not even Realdoll makes that face and body any more. The second, Melanie is Melanie, an even if I DID find a replacement, the new doll would never BE Melanie. Not to mention with the gross inflation we’re having due to that fuck BIDEN, I could not afford to buy a new doll. And no, I’m not going to try to get a cheap TPE that‘s made by slave labor in China. I researched it guys, that’s who’s on the factory floor making those dolls. I won’t in any way support them.
If I sound a little bitter, yeah, maybe I am. I had previously planned on getting Tabitha involved with a new shoot. Now, I think I’m just going to leave her lying down in bed.
