Not sure if I'll have time to post this later, so I'll put my odd take on the 'twilight Zone' up now.:
Scene: A bulky casket-like mold is laying on the floor of a large room. Over the mold is an empty hook. Naked, bald dolls are hanging on hooks, making a line away from the mold. Two men are releasing the catches on the large mold.
Narrator : What you see is a factory that makes life sized dolls. Coming out of the mold now is a doll we will call ‘Amber’. Amber’s exit from the mold may be considered to some as ‘manufacturing’. Others may consider it a ‘birth’. Sit back and consider this question for yourselves, as we take a visit into…
The Doll Light Zone.
The short, dark haired man at the foot of the mold looks up at the other one. “Ready, Charlie,? Lift in three, two, one, lift!”
Both men pull, the top of the mold slowly separates from the bottom. They get the top half free, and set it to one side to show the back half of a doll. George looks down on the doll within, and frowns. Pointing to the dolls’ shoulders, he says, “Damn, look at that, this one’s got leprosy.”
Charlie looks, and sees the skin irregularities. He inspects the inside of the top part of the mold. “Clean, her skin didn’t come off. It’s not our fault.”
George shakes his head and motions to the doll. “Come on, let’s get her out. Should we take the trouble to hang her up?”
Charlie gives a begrudging nod. “Yeah, we better, just in case.”
George and Charlie carefully peel Amber out of the mold. Charlie attaches the hook to the back of her neck, and they hang her up on the overhead track. Inspecting Amber, Charlie shakes his head sadly. “Blemishes all over, and look at the right arm. I think this one is trash.”
George inspects the Ambers’ face. “Well, her face is all right. Put some eyes in, and lay on some makeup, she might be good for a display model.”
“Maybe,” Charlie says tonelessly. “Get some eyes in her and let’s get to work on the next one.
The camera pans close to Amber’s face as a pair of brown eyes are inserted. The camera angle shifts to looking out of Amber’s eyes. Amber is pushed down the line. All we can see is the back of the doll’s bald head in front of her. A female voice speaks in a quiet whisper.
“What’s happening? I… am I alive? I feel my body, but I can’t move. I can see, but only what is right in front of me. Is that someone else I am looking at?“
A male voice says, “Come on girlies, time for your makeup.”
The bald head in front of Amber moves away, then the doll is taken off the hook and placed in a recliner. The camera now shows the track other dolls are hanging on. Past the set of recliners, dolls in the line have full wigs and their faces are made up. In the lower part of the scene, a man reviews a paper, then picks up a fine brush and applies makeup to the doll in the recliner.
The camera zooms closer on the last doll in line, a green eyed red-head with bushy hair.
The soft female voice says, “Oh, I must be a doll like her. She is pretty! I hope I will be just as pretty. And the next one, her dark curly hair, and that button nose… ohh she‘s so cute!”
Two men enter the scene. One is in a white turtleneck and the other a balding man in a business suit. Going over to red haired doll, the balding man in the business suit smiles broadly at her. “Absolutely gorgeous!” He runs his hand up and down the doll’s bare side as he sports a wide grin. “I think I’m going to like her a lot. You’re going to put her in the red teddy, stockings, and those spiked heels?”
“Yes, sir. She’ll be ready to ship tomorrow afternoon, unless you’d like to pick her up.”
“I’ll pick her up,” the man nods. Taking another long look at the doll, he scans her body with his eyes. “You do wonderful work here. I’ll see you tomorrow, say about three?”
“We’ll have her ready. May I suggest a robe for the ride home?”
The man waves a hand in a no-no gesture. “I bought her a mink and a pearl necklace.” Giving the doll another long look, the man shakes his head. “We better go out to your office to finalize the deal. If I stay in here much longer, I’ll want to take her home now.”
The other man laughs and motions the way.
The soft female voice gives a sigh. “It will be nice to be a doll who is loved. I hope I get all kinds of pretty things to wear, too. That man looks like he‘s really going to like his doll. I want my man to pet me, and look at me so fondly… ”
In the middle of the thought, the camera jerks back and swings to the side to show the man in the turtleneck inspecting Amber. He frowns into the camera, then turns her one way then the other. “Not much we can do with this one. Put her in the back room until Sam gets a good look at her. Maybe he can perform some of his touchup magic on her.”
The camera swivels, and is now looking at the ceiling. Amber passes through a doorway into a room with a corrugated roof. The camera swings again to show a close up of a man sitting Amber in place. He moves to the side. The scene is now a room full of jumbled boxes and scrap piled in one corner. A dumpster sits in the other corner, square in the camera‘s vision.
The female voice asks, “What is that? Where are the other dolls? There must be some mistake… “
A man comes in with a bag of trash. He tosses it in the dumpster. He hits a button on the wall, and there is a motorized crunching sound. The bag is compacted into the container. Walking back toward Amber, he pauses to give her boob a squeeze. Glancing back at the dumpster, he looks back down at Amber’s chest. “It’s going to be a shame to throw those away.” With a shake of his head, he leaves.
The soft female voice speaks in a frantic tone. “On no! I’m to be put in that thing and crushed? What did I do to deserve this? Don’t I have a man who is going to come and give me pretty clothes, to look at me and smile? I… I want to be petted and loved, not mashed up with garbage. Wait, them men who took me down. They talked about a Sam. Maybe this Sam can save me. That man said he would help me…”
A while later, two men come in. “This is the one, Sam,” the man in the turtleneck says to the other.
Sam comes close and scrutinizes Amber. He gently rubs one of the worse blemishes, then wiggles one of her breasts, then the other. After inspecting her legs, he stands up and shakes his head. “I don’t know, she’s pretty bad. I can fix all kinds of tears, and even rebuild skeleton parts, but those blemishes are tough to fix so they come out right. I’ll have to give it some thought. Maybe I can buy her for parts to fix other dolls. Her head, legs and breasts look to be in good shape”
“So, do you want her?”
“Let me mull it over tonight, I’ll be back in the morning.”
The men leave, shutting the door with what seems to be a loud bang.
In the dimming light, a soft weeping is heard. “Oh please no! Please don’t let me be thrown away, or cut into pieces. I want to live, I want to be loved! Please don’t let me die like this. I haven‘t even lived yet…” The words fall off into weeping.
Scene : the light dims rapidly into dark with time lapse, then the sun rises to show a close up of Amber’s stricken face as she stares at the dumpster, quietly awaiting her fate. A squeak announces the door opening. Men come in. One says, “This is the one, Carl. Those blemishes can’t be fixed.“
Amber is lifted up. Behind Amber’s face, the room is moving by.
The soft female voice cries again, becoming frantic. “Oh, God, this is it. I’m going to be thrown away. Please hear me! Please don’t kill me! Just give me a chance, PLEASE!”
The camera pans back farther to show the man named Carl who is holding Amber in a bride carry. Looking at Sam, he sports a wide grin. “She’s just fine Sam, I really appreciate this. There is no other way I could afford one of these dolls. You guys are the greatest.”
“Glad I could help. Leo will do her makeup while you get her some clothes.”
Scene : Carl with his new, blemished doll is picking out her wig and selecting clothes for her. Amber sits in a recliner and is getting eyebrows painted on her. Her cheeks looked flushed, reflecting the joy that Carl is radiating.
Narrator : Some say that dolls, or any inanimate object is only dead, formed material. These people would say that Carl has only gotten a good deal on a doll that would have been thrown away. Others say that when we make a work of art, a piece of the artist is molded into his creation, and that creation takes on it‘s own character. If that is true, then it is possible that Carl has saved Amber, and she will surely repay his kindness with love. Questions like this can only be answered deep within ourselves, and in…
