River trip with Glenda

My wife Susan recently died - sudden stroke. She wanted her ashes to be spread in the river that when she was able, she loved to spend time on. Getting Glenda, Susan wanted to name her Glenda Rae since her name was Susan Rae. Susan liked to pick outfits for Glenda and taking her places we went. So, on this last trip to honor what Susan wanted, I took Glenda with me.

It wasn't easy. Glenda Rae is a 92 pound Realdoll., circa 2016. It was a canoe trip.

After getting Glenda in the passenger seat, I loaded in the canoe and all the paddles, seat cushions, life jackets, wheels to make moving things easier, and the tote to put small stuff in. It was 89 degrees out.

Glenda was seatbelted in good, you can see the tag on the front of the canoe the last time it was in the water. Way too long ago.

After traveling a few miles down the dirt road, we got to the access area. Yup the river was low so the boat ramp was Very long. I used the wheels, and after the canoe was loaded up, I wheeled it down the ramp.

Yup, the end was muddy but I got the wheels back off. Glenda is sitting on the seat cushion, her back against the padded life jacket. I had painted the paddles to make them look a little better. I pushed off and got in and we were off.

KA: Glenda, I got two paddles here. Since we're going up river, you can paddle too.

Glenda ; You said a canoe ride, you said nothing about paddling!

KA: Grrrrr.

Well fine, I can still gaze at your big sexy tits.

Yes, it was hot, I was the only one paddling upstream, and sweat was getting in my eyes. Still, out here on the river, it was quiet, peaceful, and completely wonderful. Being so busy, I had nearly forgotten how nice it was just to take a ride up the river. I swear I could almost here Susan saying "remember what we had" The ride became a little more emotional that I thought it would be.We'd just had our 48th anniversary a few weeks ago. Never made it to 50 as we'd planned.

OK painting the paddles well, that didn't turn out good. And yes, those are my Spidermans. I'm retired, I'm allowed. :p

This is the place where I dumped Sue's ashes. Off this point was fast water flow. The upstream entry to the cove was blocked, I couldn't get in.

This is the 'urn' I made for Sue's ashes. I think it's a bit more personalized that any of the ones I saw on sale. Sue was special, I think the memorial to her should be also.

Oh! one more thing, see that decrepit building across the river? Not far from there is the Mormon shrine dedicating that spot as the place that John Smith met Jesus Christ on the bank of the Susquehanna river. North America's first 'native' Christian religion.

So next we drifted back down river, I was on no hurry to get home, though now I got a good case of sunburn, and Glenda's skin got really warm. I got Glenda home and inside, and don't plant to do much more today - except maybe look for the Ben-Gay.

I’m so very very sorry for your loss. She was so young.
From what you say, she sounds like a very special lady - and she loved Glenda too!
The urn you’ve made looks ideal and unique to her, I’m sure she would’ve loved that.
As Julia says, what a wonderful way of honouring and celebrating her life and fulfilling her wishes. A special place for her, for you both.
May she rest peacefully and may you know the support and strength you need in your grief.
