Face App in pictures

Using apps to change the appearance and expression of your love doll is becoming almost the norm these days. There is mixed opinion about it in the doll world, some people use heavy app usage and even use Photoshop on their pictures, while others just add subtle changes to the picture. There are some that absolutely detest using any digital modification at all.

As you can see from these images above, one picture is not altered at all, while the other has has major faceapp work done to it. Same girl, same face and same photo, totally different feel. Now I am not saying this is right in anyway, suddenly your love doll has been transformed into a human. But perhaps for certain pictures that is what you want to achieve. Some would consider this cheating somewhat.

To me its a tool like everything else. If you want to make great pictures you use every tool at your disposal. How far you want to go is up to you, it is YOUR picture after all. However the downside is that people that don't like this kind of manipulation won't comment on it, if that is important to you?

More subtle ways of enhancing your image is to add a smile to change the mood of your picture. This is very common for love dolls as they have fix expressions. People want to bring their love dolls to life in pictures and FA and other apps can help with that.

In FA you can change the smile from a slight closed smile (great for dolls with open mouth expressions see pic below), to broad cheesy grins, just with the press of a button. All have their place in your photographic hobby.

Other things you can do to enhance the subject is change makeup and hair which is ideal if you don't have this kind of skill in real life. Again is all about moderation and control. The subtlest of changes is mostly the most powerful. Would you know the doll below has a FA smile if I hadn't told you (and of course your don't know what she looks like normally).

So face app, is it a good tool to use. What's your take on it?

Is there a program (not app) that works on faces in Linux?

I do not know, but I doubt it. There doesn't seem to be much for Macs either! I have to transfer pictures to my phone or tablet to use FA, and then transfer picture back to my iMac to use. Perhaps you could do that too? I transfer either with a USB cable or if just one pic, I tend just to use an email attachment. Works well.

I've heard people talking about GIMP. Never used it though so don't know if it is any good.

I use GIMP for most of my digital work and it is great (and free) in Linux and Windows 95 to 11. But it is not so easy with faces so I'm watching for other options.

Yes you would think that there would be lots of these types of photo faces apps and programs wouldn't you. There's a few but most are just for smoothing skin and makeup, there's not many can actually change expressions. Shame really for us. Even FA won't work on desktop computers where they would be more useful than just mobile phones. Tablets a little better which is the main reason I got mine. Although the camera on it has proved to be really really great! Better than my dated digital camera!

I'm generally against using apps such as FA, or indeed, calling them 'apps' instead of programs. And yes I still call folders 'directories', especially on Linux :) However, I do accept there are sometimes uses for them in specific circumstances.

Conveying emotions can usually be done via the old photographer's tricks such as lighting, shadow, angle, and for that matter, planting seeds in the mind of the reader with appropriate captioning. Though for photography n00bs, or those who don't view it as a hobby, it would make sense to do that with an app, or a desktop program if one ever exists.

What I can'tover used.

I love faceapp but i do tend to find myself holding back on it now and then. Saying that, I do like the subtle smiles as well as the huge evil grins that Karlos loves so much! When you have a one expression doll its all you can do at times to change the look and mood of the pic. I have even used it on myself when I'm in the pic with Willow for instance, to make me look a little less haggled ! LOL Can't have her out doing me so completely!

I like the third picture best. Its subtle, the kind of picture you wouldn't know has been enhanced.
The second picture is good, but to me the face is too bright compared to the rest of her. I do like the two different filters though. One vibrant and the other moody.
