Sometimes the best finds don’t come from high-end toy shops or collector expos, They come from the thrift store shelf for just four dollars. That’s how Lagoona Blue, the 2012 Swim Class edition, swam her way into Hanna’s Doll House. With her sea-inspired style and unmistakable Monster High charm, she’s now part of the family here.

This discovery brought back a memory of my BFF. Years ago, when his daughter was young, he bought her dolls by the armful - Barbies, Bratz, and anything else that caught her eye. He was glad to buy them for her, but dolls never really spoke to him personally. Fast forward about fifteen years, and the story takes an unexpected turn.

.

My BFF is now knee-deep into 1/6 scale seamless action figures. He had his heart set on creating a female cat anamorph, a sleek, feline hybrid—but no company was making one. So, he decided to build her himself. He sourced the perfect body, but he still needed a head. That hunt led him back to the toy aisle, where he scoured big retailers for a doll head he could modify. That’s when he stumbled across Clawdeen Wolf, a Monster High doll, sitting lonely on closeout.

From that purchase, Ailòna was born—the Cat-Sìth of Skye, a striking custom hybrid blending a TBLeague body with a transformed Monster High head. And now, with Lagoona Blue joining the collection, the story of Monster High at Hanna’s Doll House keeps expanding in ways no one could have predicted.

A Look Back at Lagoona Blue (2012 Swim Class Version)

The 2012 Swim Class edition of Lagoona Blue kept all the hallmarks that made her a fan favorite. As the daughter of a sea monster, she was instantly recognizable with her webbed hands and fins that peeked out at her calves and arms. Her platinum-blonde hair streaked with aqua and teal shimmered like sunlight through water, and her big blue eyes gave her a friendly, approachable look.

Her outfit was pure Monster High flair with a beachy, athletic twist: a sporty one-piece swimsuit with scale-print detailing, paired with sea-green leggings and pink sneakers. Accessories included a mesh tote bag and her beloved pet piranha, Neptuna, who fit snugly into a transparent fishbowl—one of the quirkiest and most beloved Monster High accessories of that era.

Story-wise, Lagoona Blue was the laid-back, sporty ghoul of the Monster High crew. She loved swimming, surfing, and marine biology, often acting as the peacemaker in the group. While other characters sometimes leaned into drama, Lagoona brought a breezy, ocean-calm energy to the halls of Monster High.

Finding her for just $4 feels like rescuing a piece of doll history from the waves of time. And now, she’s here to make new memories—side by side with all of the other dolls and characters who have made their way into Hanna's Doll House.

Some small dolls are not just for kids anymore. I am sure Mattel knows that too.

I went to find where they are hanging out in the house and only found one. The other must have absconded off with the car, but It turns out we have more than just Draculaura living here. We will take a few days rounding up as much of the gang as we can and get a group photo.
