You’ve seen TPE dolls, silicone dolls, hybrid dolls, plush dolls (plushies), small dolls, inflatable dolls, even a mannequin or two on the various doll forums.

But have you ever seen a marionette on any doll forum?

Maybe that’s because marionettes technically aren’t dolls at all, they’re puppets. Most people, if they think of marionettes, probably picture the classic Gerry Anderson characters, Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlet, clearly staged, filmed, and “performed.”

Anyway… meet Molly. The first marionette on MLDC, TDF, or any doll forum.

And yes, the name is intentional. Every time I say it, I hear “Good golly, Miss Molly” in my head, so now you probably will too.

Most of you already know Holly, she’s a 5'2" hybrid plushie and she’s been part of my posts here for a long time.

Molly, on the other hand, is a 40" theatrical marionette, and this is her very first appearance on MLDC or anywhere else. She isn’t posed on a set or suspended from strings here, just sharing the same quiet, unplanned space as Holly.

Yes, Totally unplanned 'Snap and Upload' picture. My bestie just saw them laying there and as Wallace would say, "That's one for the album!" 🤣

What do you think? What emotion does this picture make you feel? Would you like to see more of Molly, strings attached and all?

She looks cute, but with strings attached, maybe it will be different. I'll have to see it....

Well, she’s a doll of sorts, and you love her, so I think she has every right to be on the forum.
And without the strings, I suppose she wouldn’t be very different to a TPE doll that has loose joints - in fact with many manufacturers, you can order the doll with pre-loosened joints now.
So, yes, let’s see more of Molly.

Is it just me and my bestie or does anyone else here think marionettes are cute but they feel kind of creepy to have in the bedroom? Like you have to sleep with one eye open because they are always watching you and you don't know what they will do if you are fully asleep.

Ok, I am about to leave my bestie. He comes home and instead of giving me some attention, he decides to wash Molly's hair.

But that wasn't good enough, he conditioned her hair too. And then, gave her a scalp massage.

Jeez, she's a marionette. And a stick one at that. And you know what makes marionettes creepy? Did you ever notice? They all look the same - male, female.

Well, I gotta admit, wet hair is sexy. Even if she is a big 105 cm dummy, What do you think?

Could be worse, she could be a ventriloquists dummy. Hmmm, a silicone/TPE ventriloquists dummy, that wouldn't be creepy at all. It would make an awful scary - arrrgh! Stupid cat, why did you jump up right then!
My girls!
