I haven't got a clue of technical stuff. The reason I ask because I have a Samsung A40. I set up a contract with Vodafone last year for £20 a month unlimited card.

Recently when I leave my town in Sussex I lose my signal, especially when i travel on the train into Surrey. Up to about a month ago everything was fine, but now even travel locally is a pain.

I went into Vodafone today and the assistant said that my phone was made for 3G not really 4G and 3G had recently been shut down across the networks in the UK and suggested the only answer was to buy a new phone, which i cannot afford.

When I got home I checked and Vodafone shut of 3G last year, so I dont understand why this loss of signal hasn't happened before now, obviously the Assistant didnt know what he was talking about.

The only situation I've had with my phone is that i had an issue with the charging port, so I took it to a mobile phone mending service called Dr. Phone in town and the put a new charging port on for me for £30.

The problem is my phone states it is a 4G phone on the specs, it's a Samsung A40.

Does anyone know if theres anything I can do on my phone to pick up a decent signal. As I say it's perfect in the town, but when I leave or go out of the town I loose the signal.

Many Thanks
Bobby

A40 LTE & VoLTE Compatibility
  • The A40 supports 4G LTE and has VoLTE capability .
  • To verify on Vodafone:
    1. Dial *#06# and note your IMEI.
    2. Visit Vodafone’s 4G Calling (VoLTE) compatibility tool or ask Vodafone support
    3. Check device settings: Settings → Connections → Mobile networks for 4G/VoLTE toggles.

Hi Bobby,

If the trouble started when you had the chaging port replaced there may have been a slight fault introduced. I previously owned a Samsung, not that model, after dropping it it was extremely insensitive to phone signals. Examining it carefully, the case was not quite clipped together. Forcing it to 'click' into place cured it. May not help you but you could ask your repairer to take another look.

Well no one here has phones all here is on computers or laptops, and land lines, yes 3g is going bit by bit so maybe that is part of your trouble, regard to the phone don't know, but you can get some free help at most Tescos stores.
Show them your phone and ask, they can give a good deal on a new phone if needed, Lady-J(y)

Like Lady J says , pop into Tesco and have a chat with the phone guy , our Tesco has one
And they are helpful even if you have not bought the phone or top up from them .
