Perfumes etc.

As the delivery date nears, I've been buying a few bits and bobs for Tammy. I was wondering though, is it OK to use perfumes and body sprays on Silicone Dolls? Need to know before a visit to The Perfume Shop.

Better to use scent on the wig and clothes rather than the doll itself. May not harm the material the doll's made of, but could compromise painted details, makeup and sealers. I usually just spritz the powder/cornstarch I use before applying.

Never to spray dolls with perfume.

Also, for synthetic wigs, it’s best to avoid spraying them with regular perfumes. Most perfumes contain alcohol and other chemicals that can dry out, weaken, or even melt synthetic fibers like kanekalon or toyokalon, leaving the hair frizzy or brittle over time.

Perfumes can also leave a residue that makes the fibers sticky, clump together, or look dull, especially if the wig has been styled with other products that may be chemically incompatible with the perfume.

Additionally, the smell of residual strong perfumes may interact with future sprays or conditioners, sometimes creating unpleasant odors instead of enhancing the scent.

If the synthetic wig is brightly colored or dyed, and regular perfume can accelerate color fading.

To safely add fragrance to a synthetic wig, it’s better to use wig-specific, alcohol-free fragrances or a very light mist of water mixed with a tiny amount of scented conditioner.

Stick to applying the perfume on clothes. Spray the clothes before putting them on your doll and make sure the perfume has fully dried.

First I'm hearing that. In all the many years I've cared for dolls, I've never had an issue giving a synthetic wig a light spritz of scent. Not even cheap cologne on cheap wigs. I have however, had issues using regular shampoos and conditioners on them. Not a good idea.

My mannequin Suzy, was purchased somewhere around 2005. She still has her original wig which has received a spritz of perfume every other week since new. Now I emphasize spritz. Not talking about saturating the thing with it. That would likely cause damage in time.

Here of late though, I've taken to misting all of my gal's wigs with a 5 to 1 water fabric softener ratio. Keeps them feeling soft, just about eliminates static and smells even better than the scent I've been using. Does wonders for my plush lady's pile too.
