Seriously pondering a new project

I have been thinking about a Setsuna doll for a while. looking here and there, I haven't found one, so I am investigating making one. Searching for 'parts', I have found grey wolf claws, feet, tails, ears AND Synthetic fur by the yard from craft and novelty places. I've also been looking at dolls to see which one will be the best to 'become' my Wolfkin doll.

I know this project will require sewing / gluing, and a bunch of time. I'm thinking to start this project this next winter when I'm mostly inside anyway. I know this won't be a 'normal' doll, she won't have silky hair but wolf fur, her fingernails will be claws, and she'll have claws on her pawed feet as well. Fangs too.

BTW - the M1 carbine looks cool, but damn it's expensive to shoot, so I cleaned it up good and it will be a 'mantle piece' for a while.

I have found sources for the fur, paws (clawed Hands and feet) tail, fangs, and I have an extra set of bright blue eyes.

Now I'm pondering what doll to use! So many out there! :confused:

Actually, I'm very nervous, I've never done anything like this before. I just have to take my time when I get everything together and make her the best I can. Still searching for the right doll to use.

I got the white fur! Wow, it's about 4 feet wide and six long. For what I paid, it's HUGE! Feels nice and soft, it looks well made too. I can't wait to get started on this project!

Yes! I got the fangs AND the long white tail. The tail looks so good, I wore it out when I got the mail. Did I get a couple strange looks LOL! Think I almost caused a traffic accident too :ROFLMAO:

I also found out Fedex LOST my new doll in transit! Gonna get on their asses about that o_O

One of my plush gals got lost in the shuffle once. Turns out, the paperwork just arrived before the physical doll as it got hung up in customs awaiting someone with sufficient authority to sign off on the pre-scan. Mind you, the pre-scan is supposed to speed things up....

Called the vendor yesterday. Vendor got on Fedex's ass. Wow, instead of being sued, Fedex found my doll! Go figure huh?

That's great news, and it sounds like you picked a really good vender to buy from.

Time to do a quick review of the doll I got to make into Setsuna.

She's an Entity doll, 138 CM tall and skinny. 62 Lbs. Right now she's in the shower so I can clean her up & let her dry before I do anything else. The instructions come in English as well as Chinese so that's a good thing for first timers.

Initial impression, not bad for what paid, but she reminds me of a 16 year old, being so skinny. Then again I'm used to my Realdolls who are filled out more in womanly forms. I'm not talking 'big butt' here, but normal sized butts. Her handful sized breasts are OK and nice & squishy. Pretty face, her red wig also looks great. Her head screws on, which is easy to do. There's go hanging mechanism, something I plan to correct.

The first thing that puzzled me is WHY she was so hard to lift out of the box! At only 62 pounds she doesn't weight much more that the 50 pound bags of pellets I get for the pellet stove, This year I've loaded 4 tons of those down into the basement for the coming winter. Studying her, I got it,. Unlike RD's who can move fairly easily, out of the box she's stiff as a board! Hint to everyone! If they are coming in a cardboard box, stand the box up then take your doll out and unwrap her. It really helps.

I have almost everything now, still waiting for the paws and the ears. I have plenty of fur, so if needed, I can just make her big pointed ears from the fur I have. Basically, I'll be ready to start soon. For the doll's current ears, they are cute, but they will have to go. If I can hide them, fine. If not I'll have to cut then off. The red wig that came with her, other dolls will use. I like her blue eyes, so they stay.

I really have to think on the next steps, adding her fur and tail. With that, the project officially begins!

Addendum to my previous review.
She can stand on her own which means I don't need a stand in the shower. I got in the shower with her and well, let's just say that was real nice :love:
Yeah, it was a bit of slippery fun. I also kinda drained my 40 gallon water heater ... oops! I am also happy to say she has none of that 'TPE' smell I've been hearing about. just a nice, soapy smell. She also dried off easy. a bit tacky bare skinned, but nothing to be concerned over. Again her joints are real stiff but I'm sure they will free up with time.
Now I gotta get to work. Lots to do. I'll take pics once I get going on her.
showers with dolls are awesome!

I’d love to shower with my girls but I’m too afraid of water getting in through the neck joint or foot bolts and rusting the skeleton.

I began adding fur to her, forearms first. I tried to sew it on (cloth to cloth, NOT into the doll) and found with the fur, that's really tough. The fur keeps getting in the way and tied into the stitches! So on her other arm, I am trying a clear Gorilla glue. It's kinda like super glue but thicker. Her arm is wrapped up, once I am sure it's dried, I see if this turns out well. The furry pubes I glued to test to see if this works are holding. Hope so, they look cute. :devilish:

OK! Her forearms and legs are done! working in her head next, put up the first pic in an outfit. The fur does make putting clothes in her a little harder, but not too bad - just some ruffled fur. Tossed a scrap piece of fur on her head and and her hears so I could visualize what the combo looked like. PLanning now to hover her hard with fur. Since her head turns independently from her neck, well that's going to be a challenge. I also have to hide or remove her human ears. I am also contemplating 'furring' her eyebrows to match the rest of her fur.

Got most of her front done. Doing her head is the worst! Heads curve and the fur is one big flat piece, that means lots of figuring and cutting. Luckily, the fur is thick enough to completely hide her human ears, so I don't have to do any 'ear surgery'. Yay! I got her tail on, it's big and bushy :) Once I struggle finishing her head fur, I'll work my way down, neck, shoulders and back. Since the fur is backed on a cloth, I have to avoid furring and joints, but I'm pretty sure I can fur her back down to her tail with no problem. We'll see.

I am certainly learning much about how to make a soft flat surface into a curved one. Setsuna is looking better every day. :cool:
