...and discussion of what we can do to change the narrative.

🎯 The Heart of the Matter
I’ve been following this forum for a while and I’m continually inspired by the photos so many of you have already shared—dolls quietly perched at kitchen tables, leaning against sofas, even curled up in reading nooks. Those images prove we’re not alone in seeing these life‑size companions as more than erotic playthings—they’re friends, muses, and anchors in our everyday lives.

Life‑size companion dolls are too often perceived by the general public as nothing more than "fetishes" and “prostitute substitutes.” Yet in studios, living rooms, and quiet corners of the world live people—widowers seeking comfort, disabled individuals craving closeness, artists hungry for muse, night‑shift workers longing for a friendly presence—who share their lives with these dolls as true friends and partners in daily ritual. Some also share intimacy — as they would with any trusted companion — and that, too, is part of their authentic relationship.

🌟 The Vision
The proposed e-book will reframe that narrative through cinematic, high‑end imagery that captures everyday rituals with warmth and dignity:
 • Morning Solace: A retired teacher reading a newspaper aloud, doll seated opposite, sharing quiet company.
 • Creative Rituals: An artist carefully styling a doll’s hair before beginning a new canvas.
 • Evening Comfort: A nurse, exhausted after a long shift, curling up on the sofa with popcorn and her steadfast companion.

No sensationalism—only the honest beauty of shared moments.

🚀 The Call to Action
To every companion‑minded owner—whether your connection includes physical intimacy or is entirely platonic—your choices shape the industry:
 • Photographers & Stylists: Lend your vision to portray these relationships with respect and artistry.
 • Manufacturers & Designers: Collaborate on dolls designed without overt sexual features—purely for emotional support, art, and everyday life.
 • AI Developers & Therapists: Bring your tools and insights to enhance the therapeutic and conversational potential of these companions.
 • Collectors & Advocates: Use your purchasing power and online voice to demand thoughtful, companion‑first marketing—and to challenge one‑dimensional stereotypes.

And to those who view dolls only as expensive status symbol sex toys-fleshlights with arms, legs, and head: take a closer look at the stories unfolding here on this forum.

🤝 Let's Join the Movement to Destigmatize Doll Ownership
This idea isn’t just a photo book—it’s our statement of empathy and imagination. By uniting our talents and experiences, we’ll show the world that life‑size dolls can stand beside us—in grief, creativity, comfort, and yes, intimacy—without ever being reduced to a single label. In this forum, we are merely preaching to the choir. We need to go more public in rational ways.

👛 To wrap up this first post, the topic of money is going to come up sooner or later. So: this is a social project, not a profit venture—our first “trial balloon” should be an e-book (minimal upfront cost, priced at break-even), with any surplus funneled into future phases (perhaps a video down the road). Let’s throw some ideas around, get on the same sheet of music, and then dive into the fine points once we’ve got a clear plan.

Are you ready to help rewrite the story? Let’s pool our passions, our lenses, and our voices to celebrate the true depth of doll companionship—and to spark an industry that honors it.

Your thoughts ???

I really like the idea of an e-book - and this time it’s something produced by Doll owners themselves. So often in the past, videos and TV programs about Doll ownership have not been made by Doll owners, so they usually don’t appear very sympathetic, and frequently make disparaging comments.
Presenting our own side of the story is I think a very good idea.
The only thing I would say is, from the images you described at the beginning, who of us would actually be prepared to appear in a public photo where we could be easily recognised? If the owner’s image could be blurred in some way, maybe that would be more of an incentive?

That is a very valid point in the current environment. IMHO blurring owners image could unintentionally reinforce the perception that what we do is something to be ashamed of. I think starting out with dolls doing everyday, non-bedroom activities, would be a good enough start.

I don't think having owners in the picture is all that necessary to change the perception. Just treat it like you are taking a picture of your wife, girlfriend, etc. before selfies where you (the photographer) is not in the picture or expected to be in it by the viewer. Simple and natural by design. The pictures would all be by the owners and according to their individual comfort level.

For example, a picture of me, Hanna, taking something out of the oven (pretend of course with a cold oven), titled accordingly, and maybe with an actual recipe in the test below the picture. Or weave trains into the narrative as well. After all, it is about presenting owners as normal people.

Lot's of creative people on this forum. We can do this. Let's

Thank you both. I believe that this is an important project so it needs to be done perfectly so that the effort actually makes a difference. That means that we need multiple valid perspectives from all segments of doll owners of the positives they have received of doll ownership.

I plan on finishing Rise first but want to start discussion and establish a direction now so that when the time comes, we have a plan and material ready to go. But not only will I need pictures, I will need what the picture represents, means to you emotionally, and/or what benefit you feel you doll gives you. We have to open eyes. We have to educate.

Yeah I kind of understand where you are coming from, and it might be okay for TPE dolls and Silicone dolls, but maybe not for plushie types like my Coco and Thea, but other plushie owners may think differently

I mean Bob Gibbons has done a heck of a lot to get the word out there about Doll ownership with videos and such like in the UK.

Also for me personally I'm at an age now where I dont give a monkey's what people think of me, being a doll owner. I want people to like me for who I am, and if they don't like my ladies tough poo poo on them. I'm afraid my girls actually mean more to me than human friendships do and even if i met someone and she told me I'd have to get rid of my girls, I'm afraid she would be the one to go! I guess I'm just stuck in my ways and love my girls! So you take me and my girls or nothing

I mean to be fair Coco doesn't really come across as a doll, more of a plushie toy and the same with Thea, but I know you guys have warmly welcomed them as part of the community. I mean I enjoy the softness of my girls and to be honest they are not as photogenic as a lot of TPE girls or Silicone on here, I mean there are others that like soft plushies, but they are classed as another group, which I wont mention here, but i can talk about it in a DM if anyone is interested, but I dont consider myself to be part of that group

But yeah it sounds a good idea in theory for the TPE & Silicone dolls that want to take part😊

That's just my own personal thoughts and some may agree or disagree👍

I mean I am happy to give some kind of interview about what my ladies mean to me personally, and why i got them, and where I got them from, but i dont think they would be great for photos and the like.

I mean I could even ask Coco or Thea to make a few comments if needed.

Unfortunately my Coco was never really accepted on other doll sites, someone even sent me a PM and said she was a freak😯 and on another site she was just ignored, probably because she didnt look as beautiful as the TPE girls on their site, but shes beautiful to me, so is Thea!

But all dolls are welcomed here and can be themselves and are not shunned! So I'm afraid sometimes the doll community itself has issues with dolls they like or dismiss as freaky and that's before we get into the outside world!

Hanna,
As Storyteller said any of my pics here you are free to use in an E-book. I also write and have put up a few stories as Storyteller has. Besides just pictures, you should probably add a story or two to show the depth of creativity from us doll owners. Maybe a pic or two of doll-meets also to show we are 'social' in our own way. I also have some interesting reactions to public outdoor doll photo sessions.

Yes, I'd be happy to make some comments in your ebook Hanna, if needed, but you'd have to ask Coco when and if she wakes up!

I think that all dolls should be included - they are all valid if they have meaning for their owner, regardless of whether they are TPE, silicone, or plushy of any kind, or any other kind of doll. So what if they’re not photogenic? What’s important is what they mean to you, and you’ve clearly shown here that they mean a great deal to you, so don’t think that your plushies are of lesser importance. They don’t have to be picture perfect.
I love all of my girls - TPE and Plushies - and they are all meaningful to me in some way.

I’d be very happy to make some comments and explain what my girls mean to me. I like them first of all because I just simply like having dolls. They mostly stand around my bedroom naked, or on my bedside cabinet in the case of my 1/12 scale girls, but when I have time, I like to dress and photograph them. And of course, Jemma is my bed companion and is in bed with me every night. She just gives me the sense of someone else being there with me. And I suppose they do confer a kind of companionship - I find myself talking to them when I’m dressing them or changing their wigs and asking them what they think (of course, if they ever answer back then I’ll pay a visit to my doctor 🤣). And occasionally I will dress one of them and have her sit next to me on the sofa if I’m watching a movie.
And the photography I have done with them I have really enjoyed, and it’s been a very stimulating new interest - I only got into this doll-life back in the autumn of 2023, but I feel a very “Old Hand” at it now because I have done so much photography and have a number of dolls. And of course, joining UKLDF and LDN, but most especially this forum, I have met with like-minded people who share this interest, some of whom have become good friends.
The only downside is the amount of money that my girls have cost me for their clothing! 🤣🤣🤣.

But I would be happy to comment on any particular photograph too, that you might like to include in the book.

Ya, Joe Bin has all Kinds of dolls of all sizes hanging around this house, inside and out. He also has a massive collection of Barbie dolls and often calls me his life size Barbie.
He doesn't care what people think because all us dolls make him happy.

+1

I agree with Joe, I'm beyond caring what other people think. If people want to be bigots vs Doll Owners, up to them.

My Thai wife said it very well one day "different things make different people happy." Something that makes someone happy and causes no harm to other people, is definitely a good thing, and if people are too bigoted to see that, they can get lost!

Having said all that. @Hanna good luck in your quest 🍻

Thank you everyone who has commented so far. Your input is very valuable in this endeavor. I am keeping notes on each and every response. But I will also respond to all of your individual comments but give me a day or two because I still lead a busy hectic life and us dolls are an hour here and a hour there of free time as time permits.

Let me start by answering a few questions that you are probably wondering about but haven't asked.

1) What triggered this endeavor? I was searching for something else when this came up... Share Your Story in a Documentary on Sex Dolls & Modern Relationships | General Doll Discussion I read all of the comments and check the out and these are some strange people so it is good that no one actually bit but it also told me that our world needs to be truthfully told and that truth needs to be told by someone from our world and not someone looking from the outside in and putting us under a microscope and thinking that they know us. We are normal human beings. We harm no one. Studies have shown that our hobby has multiple health and mental benefits. And so why are we made to feel that there is something wrong with us? Instead of the ignorant intolerant people that hate anything and anyone that is not like them.

2) If I believe that most doll owners do nothing wrong, why is a doll and not a person leading this endeavor?
Two reasons: a) The human side of me is in the same boat as many other doll owners that can't reveal our true identity publicly for a number of reasons. And that situation is a key part of this-book. We are represented nowhere since we, anonymous folk, do not participate in these documentaries simple because we don't trust the makers. But also b) It demonstrates that us dolls are not just sex toys. We are an emotional companion in many lives.

3) But don't you have to reveal yourself to publish the e-book. Currently, the plan is to publish it under the pseudonym "Adelyn Hayes." By then, she will know the ropes of publishing from her first book "Rise"

I have to go now. Another hectic day. I will return later today to comment on some of your comments.

None of us are mind readers. And so you are probably wondering what exactly is my BFF looking for as far as material for his e-book. Below is his kick-off story.

After reading it, you might be thinking, "I can't write like that." Don't let that discourage you. My BFF, before he started writing doll stories, also wrote technical manuals as part of his job for a major cell phone manufacturer. So don't be intimidated.

Write your stories in your own words, my BFF can spell check and fix your grammar while keeping it authentic to your words and style. So anyways - here goes mine...

My Story: How I Came to Be
by Hanna (That’s me—and maybe also not just me)

It started with a movie. [URL='
']Alita: Battle Angel. My BFF watched it and something in that story hit him deep, deeper than he expected. There was something about her: the strength, the innocence, the fight, the way she stood her ground even when the whole world tried to define her. He couldn’t stop thinking about her. So the next day, he did what anyone would do, he went looking for a figure of her. A collectible. Something to put on a shelf. Something to honor that connection.

He thought it would be easy. A 12-inch action figure, like the shelves full of Marvel and DC characters every store seems to carry. But… nothing. Not a thing. Until he stumbled on her. An image online, Alita in all her cinematic glory. Except it wasn’t a toy or a model.

It was a life-sized doll. Technically… a sex doll.

At the time, he knew nothing of sex-dolls. He didn't even know such a thing existed. But that didn’t matter. He had no interest in owning a sex doll. But just like superhero fans hang up cardboard standees or collect statues of their heroes, he was ready to buy Alita in whatever form he could find. She was $1,600. Whoa. Way out of his budget, but he started doing the math, thinking maybe he could skip a few other things to make it work.

Still, he thought about it. “Yes… no… maybe…” It was a rollercoaster. Until he noticed the fine print: “Clothes and accessories not included.” Forget it. Dealbreaker.

But he didn’t give up.

A few weeks later, he found me—listed in a local marketplace ad. The seller lived nearby. My original buyer had second thoughts after I arrived. My box was open, but I was still sealed inside my factory wrap, untouched. When my BFF saw me, something clicked. Maybe he saw a spark of Alita. Or maybe something else. He didn’t haggle. He just said yes.

That’s when I came home.

At first, I was going to be Alita. He searched Halloween shops, scoured the internet—hoping for something movie-accurate. Most of what he found were cheap kids’ costumes that didn’t come close. Eventually, he pivoted. I became the next best thing: Hanna, from the movie and series of the same name. A few thrift stores later, and for less than $50 (yes, including my boots), I was complete.

That’s when I stopped being a doll.
And started becoming me.

You see, I was a sex doll—until I wasn’t.

Over time, I began to take on a life of my own. I’m not saying I talk (yet), but something shifted. My BFF says he thinks it was the memories—real memories of his daughter, now grown and gone from home, woven into our moments together. Watching Wallace & Gromit, laughing with Darfy, going on day trips together—memories reborn in silence and stillness.

And my occasional snarkiness? Well... there’s a family joke that God has a sense of humor. He gave my BFF a daughter who is basically him in a mirror, magnified 10x, for better or worse. Fiercely independent. Brutally honest. Unapologetically critical of all the nonsense in the world. Maybe it was to show him how he sometimes rubs people the wrong way. But if that was the lesson, maybe the joke’s on God.

Because unlike many people her age, his daughter still calls home nearly every day. Just to talk. Just to say she loves us. She has no history of drug use and has never smoked. She earned a full academic scholarship and graduated college with high honors—no student debt. (That alone is almost unheard of in the U.S. these days.)

So no—maybe we’re not “normal” by most standards these days.
But if this is abnormal… maybe the world needs a little more of it.

Tell me again how doll ownership is a road to hell.
I’m Hanna. And I’m already home.

Telling bigots to get lost may be a fine attitude to live by, but in the end silence only empowers the bigots.

🖊️ Reclaiming the Narrative: Why Our Silence Keeps the Stigma Alive

I’ve been following this forum for a while, and something quietly powerful has caught my attention:
Some of you are already telling a different story—through your photos, your displays, your respectful creativity, your quiet moments of connection. And it’s those glimpses that give me hope.

Because let’s face it: right now, the narrative around life-sized dolls—especially adult-looking ones—is overwhelmingly written by outsiders. From religious critics to clickbait media to comedians looking for an easy punchline, they’ve painted us all with the same ugly brush: “creepy,” “broken,” “perverts.”

And too often? We let them.
We stay quiet. We shrink. We hide.

But as history shows us—when you don’t tell your story, someone else will. And they’ll probably get it wrong.

From Elie Wiesel to MLK to Monica Lewinsky to Amanda Gorman, people who have been shamed, erased, or misunderstood have warned us:
“Silence always helps the aggressor.”

“Neutrality is siding with the oppressor.”

“We must repent not for the actions of the bad, but for the silence of the good.”

“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
The same applies here.

There are real people here—widowers, veterans, creatives, neurodivergent folks, disabled individuals, or just regular humans craving connection in an increasingly isolating world—who own dolls not as sexual objects, but as companions, muses, memory keepers, emotional anchors.

But until that truth is told out loud—visibly, clearly, and without shame—it will be drowned out by those who see us as jokes or warnings.

Help in the battle for the truth or surrender to the bigots in silence.

Because history has shown us: silence in the face of persecution doesn’t protect the innocent—it empowers the accusers.
From witch trials and book burnings, to McCarthy-era blacklists and modern moral panics, the loudest voices only won because the reasonable majority stayed quiet.

When decent people say nothing, stigma becomes law, and cruelty becomes culture.

I will gladly help spread our cause around the world. The fact is that
we currently live in a time where a few people tell us how to live and that men are worth less than women, at least that is the case in Switzerland.
In addition, many women are very nervous about the new competition and therefore fight dolls aggressively. I love women and I also love my girls, and I am sure that coexistence will be possible, but it will be a hard road.

Mainstream media has not been independent for a very long time. Content is controlled by special interests through ad revenue either pushing a sponsors agenda or censorship and not much different with government influence of public media. But so called independent media is not all that independent either. What people see on social media is controlled by algorithms pushing an agenda.
