That's a swarm. 😱 Are you sure they were wasps and not hornets? Good thing you were so close to the door, could have turned nasty very quickly. 😳
Yea, they were only normal size as I saw one or two on the window of the door, luckily on the outside! I think they were more likely bees, here is what I found out from Gemini:
Honey bee swarm:
- Large, docile mass of bees (around 12,000 to 30,000 bees)
- Usually golden brown in color
- Not interested in stinging unless provoked
- Often seen hanging from branches or other objects
Only these ones were all hovering about. I think they were more golden than bright yellow, so bees. Wish I'd recorded them on video, but they were only there for a minute or so before they had moved on down the street. Every single one of them, when I stepped out again, there were none lingering around.
