Early next morning, I packed my bag as quietly as I could. I only took what few clothes I came with and one or two additions that I really liked. They would remind me of Kimberley...
Once ready, I scanned my room one last time
I heard the distant rumble of traffic as I headed for the door. Otherwise it was eerily quiet. Kimberly was usually just getting up at this time, crashing about on her bolted feet as she went through her early morning routine of a trip to the bathroom.
Not this morning though. I used to scold her for the noise, but now I yearned for it....
It was Story I was worried about, I didn't want to try and explain why I was bailing. How could I explain it and not sound like a monster.
I tip toed to the door, the morning sun already starting to shine through the windows
I actually got my hand on the door handle when I heard a movement behind me. A familiar TAP TAP.
I span round, dropping my bag!
I scared in disbelief, as I didn't trust my eyes...
There she was, stretching the night away before heading to the bathroom, as usual...
She was still weak, her movements were not as brisk as she usually was, but she seemed... OK... The magic Had for once, worked!
The emotions that swept through me. Relief. Joy. Terror that I had almost run from...
nothing.
I hurried back to my room to unpack. Joyfully this time. I heard the flush of the toilet, the splashing of water as she washed her hands, then I waited at the door as she slowing wandered back to her room. She waved in my direction as she did so.
The next few days she spent recuperation. Dozing on the couch, the odd replies on the forum. But then things began to change a little...
One day I was sitting watching a little film called Lord of the Rings, when she jumped beside me, and flipped her seat up. Then she put her arm around mine...
We watch the film into the early morning, chattering about it as we did so, and for once in my life,
I felt loved.
