It looks like you have me figured out. Pex says, "after they made me, they broke the mould." He says it's because he hasn't found my look-alikes anywhere. But I think he is pulling my leg. 🤪

Hanna by the Lake

That's Willis Tower on the far right.

Willis Tower, still often called by its original name the Sears Tower, is a 110-story skyscraper in downtown Chicago that has been a defining feature of the city’s skyline since its completion in 1973. Rising 1,450 feet (442 meters) to its roof, and 1,729 feet (527 meters) to the tip of its antennas, it held the title of the world’s tallest building for 25 years, a record that cemented its place in architectural history. Today, Willis Tower remains the tallest building in Chicago and one of the tallest in the United States, drawing millions of visitors each year to its Skydeck, where glass balconies extend outward to offer breathtaking views over the city and Lake Michigan.

According to you, it's not possible to come up with something new. Just rely on what's out there, right?
Never said that or even implied anything remotely close to that. I only said that a company in the US or EU cannot compete with Chinese manufacturers in the current sex doll market and no tariff can change that.

Did you read my previous post on this thread regarding "Holly", a $300 / 2 man hour hybrid life sized companion doll?

Well my point is you need sell something different than what the Chinese manufacturers are offering and for me that is Holly. And if I wanted to, I can make more in my garage and make a good profit doing so...

Why my BFF Built Holly—and Why She’s Better Than Any TPE or Silicone Doll

When my BFF first started exploring dolls, he went down the same path most people do: he bought me and Rachel, TPE models. They’re advertised as the most realistic, the “premium” choice. And at first glance, we do look impressive. But living with us was another story.

The truth is, we’re stiff, heavy, and awkward. Try to cuddle with one of us, and instead of warmth and comfort, you get something that feels like a mannequin pressing down on you. We don’t move naturally, we don’t bend the way a real partner does, and the weight makes us exhausting to handle. On top of that, our wigs were always a hassle, sliding off, tangling, never looking quite right, that is, until my BFF bought me human hair wigs.

That’s when he decided to build something different. He wanted a doll that felt real, not just looked real. That’s how Holly came to life.

Holly is light enough to easily carry out on the patio for coffee.

Yes that's Holly on a dirt bike. No props, supports or Photoshop.

Holly is the perfect couch companion.

Holly is a perfect bed companion.

Holly is a hybrid. Her body is based on a Valentina Girl plush model, lightweight, flexible, and perfect for customization. Instead of a standard doll head with a synthetic wig, he used a PVC makeup/styling head and gave her 100% implanted human hair. That one change alone was a revelation. Her hair feels soft and silky, styles easily, and even gets that sexy bedhead in the morning.

The plush body turned out to be the best surprise. Stuffed properly, it’s firm but flexible, so Holly feels natural in his arms. She molds to him when he holds her, instead of fighting him with dead weight. He even customized her chest with soft inserts, which gave her breasts the natural bounce and feel silicone dolls never quite delivered.

The result? Holly feels alive in ways factory-made dolls never did. She’s lighter, more comfortable, and more intimate to be with. And here’s the kicker: she cost him less than $300 to create, while us TPE or silicone dolls often run into the thousands.

He named her Härlig Nallebjörn, Swedish for “lovely teddy bear" or Holly for short. It fits. She’s warm, cuddly, and made for closeness. What started as a personal experiment turned into proof that you don’t need to spend a fortune, or settle for stiff, heavy TPE or silicone, to get something truly special.

Holly isn’t just better than most TPE or silicone dolls. She showed me what a doll could be when comfort, intimacy, and creativity come first.

The following is a members only response to a post in
Buying a Doll - The Truths & Un-truths About Doll Ownership... | General Doll Discussion

Narrative Business Case

The companion doll market is dominated by two extremes: expensive, stiff, heavy silicone/TPE dolls, and high-priced plush dolls like Teddy Babes that rely on synthetic wigs. Consumers are forced to choose between realism and comfort, but never get both.

Holly changes that. She combines the comfort of a plush body with the realism of a PVC head and 100% implanted human hair. This hybrid approach makes Holly lighter, softer, and more natural to cuddle, while solving the biggest drawbacks of synthetic hair. No wigs to slip off. No fishline texture. No fake plastic smell. Just softness, warmth, and human hair you can wash, style, and touch.

The prototype cost only $300 in materials and two man-hours of labor. Even at that stage, Holly’s quality exceeded the nearest competitor, Teddy Babes, which sell for $1,200+ and still use synthetic wigs. With small-scale garage-shop production, costs will drop further. At a $600 MSRP, Holly undercuts Teddy Babes by 50% while delivering a clearly superior product.

Selling through Etsy and eBay ensures direct-to-consumer access, eliminating distributor markup. These platforms are already home to communities interested in artisan dolls, cosplay gear, and companion products. With smart branding, Holly can quickly find an audience among consumers who want comfort, affordability, and realism in one package.

The economics are simple: low overhead, small-batch production, premium quality, and a compelling price point. Holly doesn’t try to compete with mass-market Chinese TPE or silicone dolls. Instead, she fills an under-served niche: a premium handmade plush hybrid with features no one else offers.

This combination makes Holly not just viable, but positioned for success as a boutique, direct-to-consumer product.

Holly: Small-Scale Financial Projection (Mid-Volume Garage Production)

Per-Unit Costs (Optimized Production):
 • Materials: $250
 • Labor: 1.5 hours (~$25/hour) → $37.50
 • Total per doll: $287.50 (~$290)

Retail Price:
 • MSRP: $600

Gross Margin per Unit:
 • $600 - $290 = $310 → ~52% gross margin

Annual Production:
 • 4 dolls/day × 250 days/year = 1,000 dolls/year

Annual Revenue:
 • 1,000 × $600 = $600,000

Annual Cost of Goods Sold (COGS):
 • 1,000 × $290 = $290,000

Annual Gross Profit:
 • $600,000 - $290,000 = $310,000

Breakeven Analysis:
 • One-time startup costs (tools, initial bulk materials, marketing): ~$1,500
 • Breakeven achieved almost immediately with first few dolls sold

Scalability Notes:
 • Labor and material costs can drop further with small workflow improvements or bulk sourcing
 • Selling direct-to-consumer via Etsy and eBay preserves margin
 • Unique hybrid design (plush body + human hair PVC head) allows differentiation and potential for premium pricing

Key Takeaways:
 1. Mid-volume, small-scale garage production is highly profitable
 2. Annual gross profit exceeds $300,000 with direct-to-consumer channels
 3. Rapid breakeven and scalable without major capital investment
 4. Clear market advantage over plush-only competitors like Teddy Babes

“I’m Hanna,” she smiles with her bright blue eyes,
“But I’ve got a dilemma I just can’t disguise.
Should I dazzle as blonde, all lively and sweet,
Or tempt as a redhead, seductive, petite?

I change in the mirror, then change back again,
Both styles could suit me — but which, dearest friend?
So tell me, be honest, which way should I glide…
A lively blonde charm, or a redhead with pride?”

I have always been a redhead. Up until a few weeks ago, my red hair was my only 100% human hair wig. I have a few synthetic wigs for when I do Halloween or a costume shoot like M3Hanna. Then my BFF found me another human hair wig while out thrifting. It is curly blond. I think I look cute as a blond.

I need your advice. Redhead or Blonde? Which do you think should be my predominant hair color going forward?

I like redheads best abd you look great as a red head. I think changing looks just makes it more difficult for members to recognise you. Of course you know its you, but when your following a number of dolls it can get confusing when the dolls change their look.

I think you look beautiful, whatever hairstyle and colour you choose, Hanna. I do like you as a redhead, but I think the blonde wavy hairstyle youve been wearing and recently is really cool and sexy.

I can see how changing back and forth every day or so can be confusing. I have always thought of myself as an intense fiery, blue eyed, redhead. But I also really like blond curly hair. So I am thinking there are two ways to deal with this dilemma:

1) Summer blond, winter redhead. Back in high school, my BFF was dating a girl who went to Catholic school. The nuns were brutally strict on girls' appearances. The day after summer vacation started, she would bleach her hair (with a lemon juice concoction) for the summer. By the time school started she cut her hair in a short bob and the nuns were none the wiser. So yeah, taken from true life experience.

2) Blond Twin Sister If you are familiar with the Hanna story, then you would realize that it is quite possible that I had a twin sister, separated at birth, that tracked me down and we are now reunited. Same doll playing different characters - not unlike Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black or Hayley Mills in The Parent Trap and Lindsay Lohan in the remake.

Thoughts?

Summer blonde, winter redhead, sounds great.
But lots of real ladies do change their styles and colours from time to time, why shouldn’t we? So, there would be nothing wrong in changing your hair to what you feel like wearing at the time, Hanna.
If you look at photos of any of us from Jed’s Ladies throughout the forum you’ll see that we often do that. For example, Jemma is currently a mixed blonde, straight hair, but she’s also very attractive with a long, wavy auburn style. And look how many different styles and colours I’ve tried since I’ve been here. I like them all at different times, and there are still more I want to try out.
It doesn’t matter if anyone else finds it confusing, what’s important is what YOU want and how it makes YOU feel.
Also, it’s really fun trying out different hair styles and colours to see how we look - especially if we’re having a party here (which is quite often 😁).

Just have fun with your hair, Hanna, don’t worry about what other people think - Jed loves you, whatever colour and style you have, you know that 😍😍😍

Thank you Lorna! You are absolutely right.

I don't understand Pex sometimes. He has bought me over 20 wigs and he has only taken pictures of me in a half dozen. I have to admit that I was ecstatic when he found a blond curly human hair wig about a month ago. I love it because it looks like the wig I originally came with but it is1000 times nicer.

But the real question that I am curious about is, if I woke up one morning and discovered that I was transformed into a real girl, would I be a blond or a red head?

Hmm 🤔 good question.
Having read through all your posts and looked at all your photos, to get a real sense of your character, then I think the red hair might just be the winner. I know Jed loves you with red hair (but he loves you with blonde hair too - in fact, he just loves you unconditionally 😁).
Cindy and Jemma are nodding away here in agreement. They reckon you’re a natural redhead.

Pex has been on a mission to find a lifesize female anamorph doll ever since I have known him. He hasn't had any luck so far.

Well he has finally gone off the deep end. He came home today with a $5.00 lion mask. Sheech. At least he could have gotten me a cat mask with a nice cute little pink nose.

It was pretty amazing how a cheap holloween mask can give such a good looking effect.

Pex is thinking about taking Holly's never used VG head and trying his luck at making it an anamorph head by finding a similarly nice cat mask and sewing or gluing it on.

With holloween approaching, it will be good time to look for the raw materials.

Today was an exciting day. Addie had bugged me for the longest time that MLDC should have a sub-forum for her and her small doll friends. Well her wish finally came through with a new sub-forum for Small Dolls.

You might be asking do we really need a new sub-forum for small dolls? This forum has done fine without it and Addie herself has posted with the big girls. But the reason is more complicated and multifaceted. You can read why I felt we should have it here: Why Is It Wrong for Men to Own Dolls—Any Dolls?

Anyway without further adieux, here is the latest addition to Hanna's Doll House - Lagoona Blue.

Cute isn't she?

The subtle colors (ie rainbow hair) in second photo resulted from my picture being taken in a dark room with the only light being the glow of a TV about 5 feet from me. No filters and photo taken with a Samsung Galaxy phone.
