Got the inner skin on last night without a hitch. The Styrofoam is much stronger now and I'm quite pleased with the level of detail retained, especially around the nose. Ofttimes much of that is lost in the process.
She's ready for the outer and final layer now, but there's a slight hiccup. Seems I neglected to ask Robert for a scrap piece of fabric to do the face with. Luckily, I have some left over from my last VG project that looks to be just about enough. None to spare though, so I've only got one shot at getting it right. This shall take much contemplation. :unsure:

Nice Lips

Not sure if I'm going to use those or not. They're pretty close to movie Meg's lips, but they're silicone. No real way to color them that wouldn't stain the surrounding fabric. Might just duplicate them in fabric like I did with Chance.

I did manage to get the head wrapped tonight, but it sure wasn't easy. That velour fabric Valentina Girls uses has very little give to it and I barely had enough. Just a small piece left over, a few inches wide, about a foot long. 🧵🪡

Won't work for Teddy Babe or regular Valentina Girl dolls. They're silicone makeup practice lips with the base cut away. They require about a 1/2 deep mouth cavity in order to insert them. I really just stuck them in there to take the pic. Doubt I'll use them on the finished doll for reasons previously mentioned.

I thought they looked a little different from the Teddy Babe replacement lips we got for Mindy. Turns out I was right.

I was contemplating using the silicone lips as-is without trying to color them. Here she is looking a little gruesome without eyelids, lashes and brows. What do you think? Use those lips the way they are or make her some new ones?

Do they only come in one colour ?

That shade, tan and brown. They're meant to practice applying lip gloss and such so they don't come pre-tinted. They're great for that purpose because being silicone, whatever you put on them comes right off and you can practice over and over. Good if you're a budding makeup artist, plush doll maker... not so much. Anything you put on them is going to rub off on the surrounding fabric. 😧

While I'm pondering the lip dilemma, decided to make Meg some cute ears. 👂

Thanks. I bend 12 gauge primary wire into the shape of a question mark and sew it inside 2 pieces of fabric cut to the same shape to mimic ear cartilage. 🙉

Okay, so maybe you can't permanently color cured silicone, but you can upholster it! 🪡

The head's about where I want it, so I'm going to put that aside for now and see about getting the body sorted. I had some basic modifications done at the factory like lowering the bust line, enhancing the curve and shape of the posterior and adding some length to the arms and legs. Now I just need to do a bit of deconstructing to tie those in with the mods I plan to make. 🪡🧵✂️

I think I may have voided the warranty... :rolleyes:
