You mean an alert function. I tried it but couldn't get it to work correctly. I will try again now i have a more advanced version of claude going though....

A red dot on logged in members on the message and topic screen is a good idea though. I should be able to do that.
Yeah, like this. Every forum I belong to has that feature. Click it and you get a drop down of quotes and posts in threads you've replied to. Major drawback for me without it.

OK I'll look into it tomorrow, its top of the list. :D
I have upgraded my version of claude so it should be possible now without slowing the site.
So its likes, quotes and threads you are watching. Anything else needed in there?

Sounds about right.

I also like the feature here where you can highlight a particular part of someone's post to quote and reply to, like I did just now.

Julia just started a new thread in the new forum with pictures and it all went well.
It will take me, Julia and Lesly some time to learn the new interface and format, but I think the new site will be just fine once everyone gets used to change,(y)

If enough members didn't want this then it wouldn't be happening. But I haven't had much negative feedback against this so democricy states we go ahead. At least give it a couple of weeks. Then we'll see what people think after that. The old site will still be there as a backup for quite a while.

Id just say keep an open mind folks and dolls, with anything new it takes a little time. I myself don't always like change and my feeling is if its not broke dont try and fix it. But i can see some benefits already

I like the fact that you can switch over to different ladies that live with you and don't have to log in and out on different accounts. I also probably get some positives as i use a mobile phone and not a laptop or PC. Thats just my opinion and Mr.Story has put a lot of work into it

Well said Mr Bob.
I also often dislike change - I like retro stuff etc but I also appreciate progress. I am understanding of the fact that if it wasn’t for the internet I probably wouldn’t even have dolls ! Anything newly developed inevitably has teething problems- just look at the defects doll manufacturers experience and they spend £millions (as an industry)
I work in engineering and I’m acutely aware that very often more can be learned from something going wrong than getting it right first time……..
Again thanks to Mr Story for all his hard work. - my girls like being in the new Gallery 😀

You know, a while back the wife was in need of a new car. There were 2 models in our price range I was considering. A Toyota Corolla and a Mazda 2. No comparison really. The Corolla had a bigger engine, got better gas mileage, more interior room as well as a lot of tech the Mazda 2 didn't even offer.

It was a no-brainer. The Corolla was clearly the better car. I had pretty much made up my mind to get it, but then I drove the Mazda 2. OMG, this car was so simple and so much fun to drive. The Corolla for all it's bells and whistles, couldn't even come close to the feeling I got when I drove it.

That's where I am with this new site. Yeah, there's a handful of features the other site didn't have, but it's just not as fun to drive for me.

Hmmmm. I put a lot into making it feel exactlt like the old site in many ways. The layout, the forums, the latest page. Yea the conversations aren't as good maybe, but they work. I don't know what else i can do you make you feel at home here

I know what you mean- I am all in favor of simplicity, but In fairness there are usually many other considerations and factors involved, So just my 2 pence worth………

I for one don’t know the full details of why this new site was needed and it’s not really any of my business anyway. I know very little about IT other than it seems to rapidly become obsolete and requires updating or eventually it will just freeze, fail and / or crash.

As an example I recently had to pay £400+ just to re-format my very basic business website which had become unsupported due to neglect and general lack of attention.

All I know for sure is that I haven’t been a member on here for very long but I and my rather oddball girls have been made very welcome and we have had fun. Another often overlooked point to note or taken for granted is that it costs me absolutely nothing to be a member! This inevitably means that someone else is doing the hard work and someone somewhere is meeting a financial cost so that we members can enjoy it.- for which of course I am grateful.😀

I think many of us doll enthusiasts are members of or aware of TDF which I only mention as it’s an example of a forum which is financed by advertising and manufacturers promotional material. Anyone who has participated on there will understand how frustrating it can be with restrictions on mentioning non participating or non advertising doll brands and various other issues, I suppose it is a resource of information but often feels so restrictive it takes all the fun out of it.

Like I said - just my 2 pence worth…………….🤔

You have done an absolutely awesome job of setting up this new forum...  I understand 100% what you have gone through to get here, It will be worth every hour you put into it...

Thank you so much for doing all this.

You have done a great job of making the new home look exactly like the old one. I don't care if there might still be a few chairs and cushions out of place, they don't matter.

What is important is ... having an open doll forum in the UK.

Cheers

Well that's just it. To me it doesn't feel like the old site. More an imitation of what we already had. I have a very nice, Washburn Oscar Schmidt electric guitar. Looks almost exactly like a Gibson Les Paul gold top. Thing is, though the sound quality is excellent and it even has a few features not found on the real thing, you can tell it's not a Gibson the moment you play it. Whole different vibe. Same here.

Sure, in the computer world updates are a sad part of life. Unfortunately, not all of them are an improvement. One of the updates on my chromebook resulted in a black screen (no display). Had to connect an external monitor and open the control panel to roll it back to a previous date, until google could come up with a patch.

Yeah, I've been on TDF since 2017. 142000+ posts under my belt. Most of those were before they turned full on commercial though and started catering to the adult side of things. Don't post much there these days.

They changed their format too a few years ago. What a disaster that was. They jumped the rollout before it had been fully tested. Almost nothing worked right and they spent months trying fix it.

Kudos to Story Teller for making sure everything was at least functional here before making the switch.

I'll get use to it in time, I suppose....

You are so right - I am still having issues with my business website and am facing another bill- a perfect example of the hidden costs often involved when essentially you have to pay someone to do it!

I was on TDF the other day and they are STILL having slow running and pages not loading problems………..

Im sure everyone is fed up with me droning on by now but I thought we should mention that - - so far this site has survived through the legislative complexities and other issues that led to the closing of the UKLDF.

I really liked the old UKLDF - lots of member participation but still a small and friendly vibe. I am sure Mr Tommo did / would have done anything realistically feasible to continue it if at all practical - yet again an example of someone working very hard “behind the scenes” for little reward just so people like me can talk nonsense and look at dolls!

OF COURSE  this new site is not going to be immediately perfect in every way and function exactly how every single member desires it to be. - no new resource ever is or can be.-(there’s loads of stuff on here I don’t understand/ cant do- but that’s probably me)

I don’t even pretend to know or understand anything about the details but to my somewhat simplified understanding It’s absolutely great that we still have any sort of UK doll forum AT ALL. - 😀😃😄

It all works fine for me. I just need to figure out a few things but so far I like it. Thanks for the hard work.
